Our Feedback
A very caring and sharing nursery. I have always felt at ease discussing away worries and concerns in confidence. All the ladies are extremely devoted to the care and teaching of the children.
L has improved greatly on his understanding across the 7 areas of learning and his speech and language has dramatically improved.
The greetings each day from the staff are very welcoming. It has been an absolute pleasure having the connection with the Naval Under Fives.

Peacock Preschool Team Members
Lisa Smith – Manager / SENDCO

I have been working in childcare since 2000.
I have a large, blended family, with 6 children ranging from 6 to 21!
I completed my childcare qualification of a Btec National in Early childhood studies at Southdown’s college. Over the years I have worked in different day nurseries and when I had my own children, I became a childminder. I then started working at peacock preschool, Naval Under Fives, initially as a preschool practitioner, in November 2022. After working here a few years I am now the preschool manager. Then following my interests, I completed the level 3 SENCO qualification, and I am now the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) developing strategies to help children with additional needs progress. I love working with children and their families getting to know them and watch them grow and develop.
Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my friends and family, they keep me busy!
Nicky Gatrell – Safeguarding Lead

I studied the NNEB and qualified in 1996.I worked in two private day nurseries and then started working for the NHS as a Community Nursery Nurse. I continued with this role for 14 years until I was unfortunately made redundant. I have extensive knowledge of supporting families within their community, I also have many years of Safeguarding experience. I joined the Peacocks team in February 2025 as Deputy Manager and I am also the designated Safeguarding Lead within this role, I have been welcomed with open arms by the staff, parents and children. Observing and supporting the children and seeing them grow and develop is a real privilege.
Poppy Smith – Early Years Practitioner

I come for a large family with lots of brothers and sisters.
I have been working in Childcare since leaving school in 2022, I started working at the local school’s before and after school club. This made me make the decision to progress in a career in childcare. I then started working at Peacock preschool as a playworker in 2023 before starting my childcare level 3 apprenticeship, in which I am very close to completing my qualification. I love working with children and being part of their learning journey.
